How long does it take to become a Permanent Resident on the new pathway?If you are a secondary school teacher, you can start the Straight to Residence Visa pathway as soon as you secure a job offer from an accredited school and get registered with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa. You can start this process before even landing in New Zealand! Once you get on the pathway, you can apply for your PR in 2 years. If you are a Primary School teacher, you will go on the Work to Residence Visa. This means you must work as a teacher in New Zealand for 2 years before going on the Straight to Residence pathway.
